Patience - The Impatient Cat

There was once an impatient cat, who's owner one day reaching down to give his cat a treat, held in his hand a piece of meat. The impatient cat jumped and clawed towards the meat, desperate for it's fattening content. His claws in desperation then swung a cut deep into his owner's thumb, and with a sudden yelp the man lifted his hand, the treat now even further from the cat. Then in pain the man went to clean his wound, forgetting all about the cat and his chunk of meat. For you see, if something is coming towards you lack of patience can at times lead things even further away.

Solidarity - The Fox and The Chicken

There were once two starving animals, one was a fox and the other a chicken. One day they decided that only together could they find food, and so after many days searching, and with the chickens help, the fox finally found a field of rabbits with which he could hunt. Thus now no longer needing the little chickens help, with little care, the fox ate his once helpful companion. For you see, the solidarity of mankind lasts only as long as the strife which formed it. Just as our hardships can soften, so can our unity.

Just the first of "maybe" many Aesop like fables. I hope you like it, note this was wrote at 4:16 in the morning. I enjoyed writing this none the less, any feedback, or do you have your own?

Determinism. Do We All Have a Destiny?

What is time? The change in chemical composition, and physical location over our universe determines the time of a particular moment, with no moment exactly the same, each second, millisecond, nanosecond is unique to itself. Our lives are based so much around time, it allows us to carry out our lives, allows us to change in the constantly altering world we live in. Time is like complicated clockwork, much we are yet to understand is known as chaos, but even in the most complicated chaos, order can be found. Every action has a reaction, which means without an action to have started the cycle we would not exist, meaning our futures in turn are as a result of the first action in a chain of reactions. Our lives are not determined by our free will, because our free will is predetermined by the actions before us, and thus the actions before them.

For example, a dice is determined to roll on a side, not by luck, but by the force which is applied to it. Our actions have a direct consequence on our futures. Science has proven such things, just look at the Mandelbrot, a mathematical formula which creates patterns found in nature. We once thought these patterns found in nature had been created on the basis of random occurrence, however this had now been proven not as a natural chaos, but as something which had order.

Could this mean live without free will? Well, that all depends on how you define free will. We have free will in a simple sense, being that we are able to decide our actions, but deeper down we soon find our decisions are predetermined. Things can not be based on random occurrences, such events in our pasts were always predetermined to have happened, each reaction in our having led to it. This means our futures in turn are also predetermined. If we were to say turn the clock of time backwards one hundred years, and again set loose time, would we still be here today? It would seem that we all are living in a predetermined destiny. Each of our actions are based on the reactions of our past, so having said that, if each law of physics was known, and also each variable of a particular moment was also known, then our futures in turn could be determined.

I hope you enjoyed this philosophical ramble, it is not a definite truth, but at least I find it a logical theory of our existences. If you enjoyed my blog post, please leave a comment and share it with your friends and family. Follow me on Twitter -http://twitter.com/#!/Frazerbw

Did God Desire The Worst Events of Time?

I want to propose to you, that the apparent God of the Christian faith, is I believe if ever it could exist, a being which has desired the pain and suffering which exists in life, and around the World. For if God had created all, then with it free will of his design, had created the loop holes in human emotion, with which also damnation was made possible. If a God had made free will, then also he had made sin. A perfect God whom makes sin, is perfect only if his desire is to make it, if not by purpose, then it is but a mistake of an imperfect and seemingly arrogant and hypocritical being. Yet no, the Christians claim God is perfect, so in fact, for that to be true, God had on purpose created sin. What does it say about a God whom made everything, created everything, yet created the ability to suffer and make others suffer. The ability to feel pain and acquire it, must not have been a undesired thing, because for it to exist as party of our biology, he must have desired it on purpose.

If God is perfect, would not he have seen our future too when creating our existence? With any hindsight God would have known of our future pain, therefore it was his intent to see it happen? Essentially if God is real, if God is perfect, then all that has happened through time has been part of his design, the pain, the suffering and the exploitation seen throughout time have all came from his design and desire to see it. Why would a God create with knowledge that it would happen, a World which would lead to the Holocaust, in which millions died, for this to me does not seem a just and kind God.... A God can not be perfect and also kind, a God can only be one or the other, whilst one wanted the pain and suffering of time, the other, the kind God must have made it by accident, for no kind God would have allow such an existence.

I am not a Christian, I am an Atheist who enjoys to think and consider all things. This post is not meant to be taken serious, it is however something which should allow you to think, and consider this aspect of Gods description and apparent deeds in the Bible. I hope you enjoyed. I don't usually do much philosophy on God, but I enjoy logic, so I thought I would do a logic piece of God.

Why a Liberal Society?

If you read my tweets you might notice how I love the idea of a liberal society, and yet care little about having a liberal government. Now let me explain why. A liberal society first means several things, a society whom is accepting, tolerant and willing to accept the existence, not necessarily agreeing, but allowing the existence of all cultures and life styles. This does not mean a liberal society is accepting and tolerant of things such as murder and rape, but it does allow the presence of people whom wish to live life differently from social norms.

There is an important reason for why I believe this is a good thing, because mainly due to the diversity of man, people will always be different, some more than others. A society whom accepts these people will find peace, conflict not arising from dislike and persecution. Such persecution can lead to the untapped efficiency of an economy, such as eccentric people being discarded, whilst less skilled workers are given the job. Because in a conservative society, the eccentric and non conformists will find it hard to apply their potential, leading to as said earlier, untapped potential.

The only issue with a liberal society which enforces liberal law is that not every one will benefit from it. We can see people in the recent riots within the UK, who this I believe has effected. And though some blame this on a liberal society, I blame this rather on the fact liberal law is far too lenient, allowing youth to grow up with disregard for their actions. This is why I only promote a liberal society, which is very beneficial to a country, but less so the idea of liberal law.

However this is not always the case, for not only does the economy benefit from a liberal society, but also policies can be made which no longer consist of conservative principals, but on the outcome of said policy. The advantage of this will find a more diverse economy, and social disputes which had began as a result of idealist policies will begin to quiet down. These are a few of the reasons which a Liberal Society can benefit a society and economy. I will be writing in more detail on this matter within time. Liberty - Part 1/4 - Freedom of Speech

What is liberty? The freedom to say, to do, to see? Or the choice of government and the ability to hold whatever views you want? Liberty comes in many forms, political, ideological, physical and such. But the question of true liberty is hard to grasp, the reality has come to me of late, that because liberty has so many definitions, liberty can not be achieved, only certain forms of liberty. And that maybe, only partial liberty has yet been achieved, that the human condition makes it difficult.

First, let's make our own liberty and for the sake of time we shall call it "Frazerism Liberty" (why not). To start, we must define this liberty by setting a foundation of rules:

  1. Freedom of Speech
  2. Freedom to Justice
  3. Freedom of Personal Consumption
  4. Freedom of Health
Now lets examine how far achieved in our society, and Government our definition of liberty is. First, "Freedom of Speech" one of the foundations of any democracy, the idea to choose ones own ideologies and speak them. Is this achieved? Well, yes it is, we are allowed, technically speaking to hold any ideologies and speak them. It is what happens when you have views which are publicly disagreed with that you find your self losing that freedom. For example, when the UK's chief drugs adviser criticized the Governments policies on moving cannabis from class c to a class b drug, he found him self sacked. Is this a breach of our rule one? In my opinion yes, because when a man speaks his opinion and is sacked purely for it, something is very wrong. A person should be able to have his freedom of speech, without the fear of job loss. What this suggests is that someone is unable to share his views that conflict with the government, if connected to it, without fears of losing their position. The problem with this is it that politicians can not speak out against their own party's policies, even if they deep down disagree with them and that politicians have lost their liberty as far as "Freedom of Speech" goes.

So, we can see not everyone has the right to pure freedom of speech, this not just applying to politicians, but in many jobs, people have found themselves losing them for things like sexuality and political views. The issue is, true freedom of speech can only be acquired once society itself is open to any idea, though not having to accept them feel able to accept that others may have their own views. As of now, freedom of speech is not permitted absolute and is restricted, if people above you disagree with them views then you may find that because of your views you will end up with consequences. Another example is that during the "Red Scare" in America, many whom held left wing views found themselves imprisoned, purely as a result of their ideological ideas. This went against many of the ideas America had, and has shown us how "Freedom of Speech" exists only for as long as a government is politically willing to allow it, be you classed a terrorist, and imprisoned, as the red scare showed even western governments like America would take ones liberty when enough people are against it.

This concludes how "Freedom of Speech" though existing, is limited and can be restricted with political policies and personal agendas. The diversity of man kind will always mean some stand against your "Freedom of Speech", be it your gay, atheist or religious, not all will approve your views. Disapproval of ones views alone does not prove a violation of freedom of speech, in fact freedom of speech allows it, the problem occurs when one physically impairs ones ability's to succeed and negativly effects someone, minus emotional upset, because of their views.

Why Is Alcohol Still Legal?

Over the last few days I have been perplexed. What is it which has made a drug like cannabis illegal whilst alcohol is so prevalent in society, not banned and widely available. Is it the danger of use? Well, medical evidence has seen more deaths from alcohol than cannabis, in fact cannabis has supposedly never caused a direct death from use alone. So we are left with the question why.

We live in a society were alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and fast foods are legal. A society which bans cocaine, cannabis and  heroin. And whilst some would say the reasons for heroin prohibition are obvious, one has to question why alcohol, even more dangerous than quite a few illegal drugs, is not banned.

I suppose I could list a few reasons why alcohol is not illegal:

  1. Tax
  2. American prohibition of alcohol failed
  3. Public opinion is mostly against the banning of alcohol
So let's begin with number one, because after all, money is the driving force of a lot of things. Tax, because even though it costs the NHS (UK health service) billions each year, the tax income outweighs it by several billion, thus one reason for alcohol being allowed is because it brings money in. However one would hope that is not the only reason for something being permitted.

Number two brings us onto the American attempt of alcohol prohibition, a failed attempt to put it lightly. The problem is, were there is a demand, there is always someone willing to provide it, at a cost, and usually trying to make as much profit as possible. Because when a government can not regulate the goods being sold because of it's legality, it becomes easy for the back street dealers to sell faulty goods at a high price.

Another issue with prohibition is that people currently dependent on alcohol, much like any drug addict, would crave and seek out alcohol, and much like said drug addicts, would do anything, including commit crime to acquire it. This is why it is not uncommon to find drug addicts making up the majority of long term prison sentences. The issue of imprisoning alcohol users into an already clogged up prison system is very impracticable and would most likely result in a crash in the legal system because of the vast quantity of people whom would be arrested for alcohol use charges. I could include more on the above issue, such as talk about the mafia and it's rise because of alcohol prohibition, but this is a short blog post so lets move on.

Number three, now this is a big one. What is it a political party wants above all things?
Political power is based on the votes a party gets, so you will find, even if the legislation is stupid and pointless, a law will be introduced with the sole goal of gaining votes because the public want it. One good example is how the government rises sentencing times for crimes, even though proven not too reduce the crime level. This is an example of legislation introduced with the sole aim of gaining public favour, because though the legislation does nothing, crime having not followed the trend of increased sentencing times, the public has shown favour to governments which introduce tough legislation. These are called political policies.

What does this mean for alcohol? Well lets consider cannabis, a drug were the public opinion towards it is seen as negative. Now lets consider alcohol, a drug which is generally supported by the public, mainly due to it's widespread use. This means, that though the effects of alcohol are well debated as being worse than cannabis, the actual gain to a party who would introduce alcohol prohibition would be small, whilst the loss in votes would be large.

So these are some of the reasons why we wont see alcohol prohibition in our current social/economic/political state. There are many other reasons why and though I do see advantages if alcohol were to be banned, I  believe these are outweighed by the disadvantages of banning it. Thank you for reading.
